Extracurricular Activities

Get Involved

In addition to a top-notch education, Georgetown students have access to an array of extracurricular activities. From sports, to clubs, to volunteer groups, extracurricular activities can be a way to enrich and enhance your Georgetown experience. However, according to NCHA data, students have indicated extracurricular activities as a factor that can negatively impact their academic performance. To avoid extracurricular stress and burnout, join only one or two groups at a time, gradually increase your involvement and be sure not to over-commit yourself.

Whether you are a member of the International Relations Club (IRC), play intramural sports, or volunteer for DC Reads, you are a part of extracurricular life at Georgetown.

All over! Groups meet all over campus, and sometimes, even off campus. Groups often travel off campus for events, games, or volunteer activities. Extracurricular activities are a great way to explore DC, because it’s our playground!

The beginning of a school year is not the only time that you can sign up for an extracurricular group or activity! Hoyalink.georgetown.edu has a detailed list of nearly every extra curricular organization on campus. There are tons of options, but if you can’t find a group you are interested in, you can always start your own!

Many Hoyas are involved in some sort of extra-curricular activity during their educational career. These activities can be a great way to meet people outside of the classroom, network, unwind, and learn more about yourself. The Center for Student Engagement provides great ideas on how to participate in intramural sports, clubs, and other extra-curricular activities.
