All services at HES are free of charge. No insurance is billed.
Every effort will be made to help the student see a health professional as soon as possible, which is usually within 24 hours. Most appointments are scheduled ahead of time with the health professional who can best meet the student’s needs, while also considering both the student and the health professional’s schedules. Let us know if the problem feels urgent.
Call or email the appropriate staff member in Health Education Services to make an appointment. You may also call the main line of Health Education Services (202-687-8949) to be directed to a professional.
A typical appointment is about one hour.
A student may be referred in the following ways:
Suggest to the student that they make an appointment by calling, emailing, or walking into Health Education Services any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students can call HES directly at (202) 687.8949.
Walk the student to HES, particularly in a crisis.
When uncertain of what to do, call HES and ask to speak to one of the health professionals to work out a specific strategy for getting the student help.
Most after hours urgent concerns are related to sexual health and/or pregnancy. If a student is worried that they may be pregnant, the Pregnancy and Sexual Health dedicated cell phone is in operation from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. A student may call or text (202) 870.1666 during these hours and speak to a health professional. Pregnancy testing kits may be available even after business hours. A student should call or text (202) 870.1666 to find out how to access these testing kits after business hours. Sexual health questions may be texted as well.
