Additional Medical Resources
If you feel you must see a provider and the Student Health Center is not available, please consider:
- Telehealth/eVisits:
MedStar eVisit offers 24/7 virtual urgent care. Connect with MedStar Health providers for many of the same conditions that you would seek care for in person. Download the MedStar eVisit app on your phone and follow the instructions to request a visit. Please inform the eVisit provider that you are a Georgetown University student so they can direct any necessary follow-up to the Student Health Center. Click here to download the MedStar eVisit – Telehealth app - Urgent Cares:
For a problem that you do not feel is life-threatening but cannot wait until the SHC is available, another option may be a MedStar Health Urgent Care Center. The Urgent Care locations in Adams Morgan (DC), Capitol Hill (DC), Ballston (VA), Bethesda (MD), and Chevy Chase (MD) are all a short ride from either Georgetown University campus. - Emergency Departments:
For Hilltop/Main Campus: the closest option is the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Emergency Department on Reservoir Road at the north end of campus.
For Law/Capitol Campus: we recommend the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Emergency Department at 106 Irving St NW, Washington, DC 20010.
Since the Student Health Center is a MedStar clinic, any appointments with the MedStar Emergency Departments, Urgent Cares, or eVisits are seamlessly integrated into our electronic medical record to ensure excellent continuity of care. Important note: It is your responsibility to determine that the providers and their services are within your insurance network. These services, while in the MedStar network, are still at an additional cost for those students with the Georgetown Student Health Insurance.
Medical Emergency
If you are having a medical emergency, please call 911 or the Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service (GERMS) at (202) 687-4357.
Currently, GERMS only serves the Hilltop/Main campus and neighborhoods close by them (see GERMS boundaries below). If on the Capitol Campus, please dial 911.

- Self Help:
If you have questions regarding your symptoms, please review our First Aide recommendations for possible home remedies. - Public Health:
Additionally, the Office of Public Health has further guidance regarding emerging illnesses. - **Coming Soon** Nurse Line:
New Student Health Center (SHC) Nurse Line, Launching July 1, 2026: SHC is adding a new Nurse Line, available Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. when school is in session, that can provide basic home-care guidance, help students schedule a same-day or next-morning appointment if needed or recommend another campus resource after consulting with the Provider of the Day. - After Hours Paging:
If you feel the need to speak to one of our providers after hours for an urgent health problem, please call our main line at (202) 687-2200 and follow the prompts to reach the after-hours provider on call. The prompts will direct you to the Medstar Georgetown University Hospital paging operator. Please let them know that you are a Georgetown student and that you would like to speak to the provider on call for the Student Health Center. The paging operator will contact the on-call provider and that person will call you back at the name and phone number you have given to the page operator (usually within 30 minutes). If you do not receive a call back in 30 minutes, please repeat this paging process.
Please do not use the after-hours provider line for non-urgent medical concerns.
Examples of non-urgent medical concerns include the following: scheduling or canceling an appointment, requesting medical records or forms, or requesting routine medication refills.
